The Servant of Two Masters

16-19 October

The October 2013 play will be “The Servant of Two Masters” by Carlo Goldoni, adapted by David Turner and Paul Lapworth.  This play inspired Richard Bean’s award winning, riotous adaptation “One Man Two Guvnors” which is currently playing to packed houses in London’s West End and around the country. Goldoni’s original 18th century Italian version is equally hilarious and follows the exploits of the servant Truffaldino who lands himself jobs with two different people at the same time. Not all the complications are of his own making – one of his ‘masters’ is in fact a lady in disguise and the other master is her lover, but Truffaldino doesn’t know this. Rooted in the traditional comedia dell’arte style, the quick-witted plot sparkles with comedy and invention.
