Kingsley Players stage hit Broadway musical ‘Annie’.
(Wed 5 – Sat 8 February 2025)
The captivating tale of little orphan ‘Annie’ is set to make the ‘sun come out’ in Kingsley with a new production of the hit Broadway musical by award-winning Kingsley Players and Youth Theatre, on stage from Wednesday 5 to Saturday 8 February.
Based on the short story ‘Little Orphan Annie’, it tells the tale of a baby girl who was left on the doorstep of a New York orphanage and the only clue to her birth was a note from her unknown parents and half a locket.
The musical opens during the American Great Depression, when millions are unemployed and forced to live on the streets in ramshackle communities nicknamed ‘Hooverville’ (after President Herbert Hoover) – the title of one of the songs.
Orphan Annie, now 11, (played by Rachel Horton) is plucked from the orphanage by Grace Farrell (Lisa Buckly), secretary to wealthy industrialist Oliver Warbucks (Phil Murray) to spend Christmas with him as a PR exercise to help soften his hard public image. And the rest is toe-tapping history….
Director Valarie Ball said: “Rehearsals are going brilliantly for KP’s forthcoming production of ‘Annie’. We have a great cast of adults, 11 amazing orphans and one wonderful Annie, who are all working really hard getting ready to entertain everyone in February.”
‘Annie’, with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, will be on stage nightly at 7pm in Kingsley Theatre in Kingsley Community Centre, from Wednesday 5 to Saturday 8 February 2025, with a Saturday matinee, starting at 2pm. (Note the change to usual start times)
Tickets cost £12, with £8 tickets available for students/children. These can be booked online at www.kingsleyplayers.co.uk or by ringing the box office on 07724 892154.
Kingsley Players Youth Theatre is kindly sponsored by Forresters.
This is an amateur production presented in arrangement with Music Theatre International.
